Taejon Radio Relay Station
29. Sooyoung Ro This man's name is Sooyoung Ro and we all called him just "Ro". I'm not sure what his official function was at the relay site but he was not your average worker. He spoke very good English and was obviously well educated. He was also an artist and painted the picture shown, which may not look impressive by the standards of today. But, without a proper studio and limited to the materials found on an isolated mountain top, I think it's great. I have an 8x10 pencil sketch he did of me, signed and dated 20 Oct. '51. I have it in a frame and hope it stays with my family long after I'm gone. I sometimes wonder what became of "Ro" and others like him after the war ended, and if we gave them the proper respect they deserved.
