581st Signal on Hill 775 - South Korea (1951)
9. Lt. Guyot and Noll Travel on Business This Lieutenant was a wonderful man. He had served in the Philippines with General Macarthur and had been promoted by Mac. Because he was a personal friend of Mac's, the other officers were in awe of him. He treated us well and we loved him. One day he asked me to drive him to a meeting. It was an exciting trip and took two days. I got to talk to him for hours. That night we stopped in a village and we were invited to stay at someone's home. I think Lieutenant Guyot (Ge Oh) took me along because I could speak Korean enough to do that kind of thing. We took along some food to pay the people for their help. The next day the entire village wanted their picture taken with us. The Lt. is the one with the dark glasses. Everyone was so friendly and amazed I could speak Korean with them. It was amazing to me how different the Koreans were with someone who had bothered to learn their language. I had many friends in the native population because of this.
