1st Marine Division, 3rd Battalion, 7t Regiment, Company G -- My Friend -- Marine Stanley R. Smith
Marine Stan Smith Marine Sgt. Stan Smith

Stan Smith eats breakfast at the Pleasant Hill Dairy Queen. Paul and Stan have become good friends. Staff Sergeant Stanley Smith served in the Marines in Korea at the Chosin Reservoir. He served with Company G, 3rd Battalion, 7th Regiment, 1st Marine Division. One of the lucky ones to survive he has faithfully served helping the coaches at Pleasant Hill High School until his stroke. If you see him, take off your hat and salute this brave man who at 21 served his country with distinction in Korea. Only 40 men of Company G out of 240 survived the action.

He lived in Dexter, a city near Pleasant Hill. At 21, his buddies referred to him as the old man. Many of those brave men who died bravely there had only seen 17 to 18 years. Many of his buddies still lie in the cold hills of North Korea. My relay station in North Korea relayed communications from Stan's unit back to Wonson. Stan has now passed away. We will miss him.
