This is view at Fort Ord towards the sea. The parade grounds are in the near view; our barracks next and in the distance is the enlisted men's club, which is on the beach. Out of sight to the left of the parade grounds are a series of warehouses. We had to be on guard duty from time to time in full gear with rifles (No bullets). Once while on guard duty when I rounded one of the buildings I saw a truck backed up to a warehouse and men throwing items into the truck. I yelled for the Corporal of the Guard [standard procedure).

The MPs came quickly and took over. Later on my post someone broke into the Greyhound Bus station and stole some money. Again the MPs came after my call. After that another guard on duty deserted and stole my car. It was quite a night and I spent a day talking to the CID (Criminal Investigation Division).
