Richmond Relay - 1969-70
10. Day Off at Bucket Site - Friend Jim Hinkle
I have always enjoyed airplanes so I also sent time on Bucket Site just
watching the various aircraft take off and land at Osan AB. There was a
mixture of old airplanes like the C-47 and F-86 used by the ROK Air Force and
the newer U.S. planes like the F-4 Phantom, C-130, C-141 and other aircraft of
the era.
There were lights, loud music and girls everywhere. Of course there were usually enough G.I's to go around so the ladies did not have to drink alone. Outside the base main gate was as entirely different world called "The Vill." It wasn't like being on base, in the States, at home or any place I had ever been before and I also had to learn its culture and protocols. The town was crowded, dusty, load, busy and full of small simple businesses getting day to day matters done. Also included were plain looking store fronts that opened into large Disco's Bars or other types of music and dance establishments. There were lights, loud music and girls everywhere. Of course there were usually enough G.I's to go around so the ladies did not have to drink alone. |
