Richmond Relay Station Richmond Relay - 1969-70 21. Richmond Site Tower

While on Richmond Site we were also expected to do maintenance on the radios and various test equipment. We had a schedule for each day and shift of what needed to be completed and did the work when the switchboard was not busy. We also did a lot of meter and gage readings for the records and kept a log of all site events. The radio circuits went all around the globe from Japan, Hawaii and Wash.D.C. but we dare not call home or anywhere else other than for official business for fear of being discovered, busted and sent to Ft Leavenworth.

There were 3 Korean electronic technicians assigned to Richmond Site and they also rotated their work shifts so we always had assistance from them and their knowledge of the systems. Mr. Kim Tae Won was one of these techs that I became friends with and would even visit him several times at his home in Taejon. He took me to many interesting places and introduced me to various friends and people he knew. I thank him for his friendship, help and will never forget our adventures together. I learned so much from him about Korea and the Korean culture.
