Tacoma Relay - 1969-70
45. Tacoma Site 10 Near Kunsan
The Site Chief from Tacoma Site 10, SFC Summerville, arrived at base camp in Taejon to pick me up sometime before Christmas '69. It was snowing hard by the time we made it to the site and it was dark and cold. We were about 100 yards from the main gate when the jeep and trailer got stuck in the snow back. The jeep slid backwards on the ice and the trailer slipped over the road embankment. The site guard heard us talking (probably cussing) and the revving engine of the jeep and told the site personnel that we were stuck in the snow just below the site. The guys from the site showed up and we unhooked the jeep from the trailer and were able to get the jeep up to the radio site. We unloaded the trailer and the Korean guard watched it for the night until we were able to wench it out of the snow bank the next day. Even with this wintry reception to my new site and home it would be a milder winter for 1970 compared to the previous winter on Richmond Site. ⇦ Back to Page 44 Return to Page 6 On to Page 46 ⇨ |
