Richmond Relay Station Richmond Relay - 1969-70 64. Kunsan Air Force Base

To the best of my knowledge Tacoma Site 10 was first operated by units of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force starting sometime during the Korean War. I think the Air Force's 5th Communications Group, 2nd Radio Relay Squadron and 1st R.R. Sqd. out of Kunsan Air Base operated communications from this location. This unit was called The Golden Mountain Goats and operated many of the radio relay sites at the beginning of the Korean War.

Stations were turned over to various Army and Air Force units and commands. Some that I am aware of on Tacoma Site 10 are 8th Army Signal Long-Lines, 581st Signal Radio Relay Company, and 5761st Signal Company of the 38th Air Defense Artillery Brigade. Later it was operated by my units command the Strategic Communications Command STRATCOM in about 1967.

Today in 2007 many of the same radio relay sites are still operating. The equipment and personnel have changed throughout time but the mission remains the same and that is to provide vital command and service communications to the Republic of South Korea. Presently the signals are under the command of Network Enterprise Technologies Command/ 9th Army Signal Command. Headquarters at Ft Huachuca AZ. and my old unit just renamed.
