4. Operations Building This is the operations building where all radio communications took place. We were located just north of Seoul about halfway to the 38th parallel. This compound had security lights around the perimeter and we posted guards at night. We were told that this was a Japanese installation at one time and not much had changed since we (US Amy) operated it. We had a Lt. Johnston as the CO. and 1st Sgt. McGraw in charge. My only connection with the operations building was to keep the power supplied for the communications. We had approximately twenty-five to thirty troops, which consisted of radio operators, radio repairmen, motor pool and the power shop (my shop). Just outside our gate on the MSR. The power was supplied by two 60 KW generators. The power generators were running twenty-four hours a day and rotated for twenty-four hours, the same system was employed at all our Relay Sites; All five of them, Beason VHF, Yong Dong Po, Hill 3 top of the mountain in Seoul, K-13, K-55 at Osan Air Base, known as Bucket A , K-13 which I think was in Taegu, or Taejon, not sure of the city. ⇦ Back to Page 3 Return to Sioui Page 1 On to Page 5 ⇨Hi-Res Pic (140K) |
