These are Mine Sweeping Boats (MSB's) of Mine Sweeping Boat Division ONE (MSB1) in Wonson Korea. They were LCVP's (Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel) converted to minesweeping in shallow water. From October 1950 until the end of the war July 1953 they swept mines in Wonson Harbor during the Siege of Wonson. When the Wonson/Hungnam evacuation occurred in December 1950, the US Navy minesweepers continued sweeping at and near Wonson to keep the Reds thinking we were going to duplicate another Inchon landing. The gunfire support ships would move into swept water at Wonson Harbor and shell the rail yards, refinery, etc throughout the war. We also occupied some of the offshore islands during the entire war, and had an emergency landing strip on YoDo Is. Their Commander was Commander Mine Squadron Three, the same person that had the USS Pirate and USS Pledge under his command when they were lost going into Wonson.
