5. Marine Reservist Called up in Seattle In the week following 31 July, 13,703 Marines reached Camp Pendleton, California, adding to the 3,459 already on hand. Also in order to have replacements and rotation troops a total of 33,528 reservists were recalled to active duty by 11 September 1950. By 31 March 1951 84,821 Reservists had reported. Stan Smith was caught up in this call up. Many Reservists had to settle their affairs in a hurry. General Smith, Commander of the Division, learned of the anticipated Inchon invasion on 8 August. They specified that the body of the Division would embark from San Diego, prepared for combat on 25 July. Parts of the 5th Marines had landed at Masan on 2 August.
