Company G, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines
13. 8th Army Advance during Inchon Invasion Events in the last two weeks of September proved decisive. The seizure of the heart of the enemy's distribution system in Seoul had completely dislocated his logistical supply. By 18 Sept North Korean forces began to give ground along the entire Eighth Army front. The US I Corps with the 1st Cav Div, 24th Inf Div and the ROK 1st Div pushed north in the west eventually capturing Wonson and Hungnam. The II ROK Corps with its 6th, 7th and 8th Divs headed north in the center and the I ROK Corps with its 3rd and Capital Divs pushed north in the East. The enemy retreat forced them to abandon great quantities of arms, ammunition and equipment. Field guns, trucks, tanks, and aircraft had been abandoned. 23,000s NKPA prisoners were captured. POW captured by UN forces now totaled 66,000. An average of 3,000 NKPA soldiers had been captured daily since the end of September. The 187th Airborne Division dropped in the area marked on the map. ⇦ Back to Page 12 On to Page 14 ⇨Return to Sgt Smith - Page 2 |
