Marine Infantry Unload at Wonson Harbor

Company G, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines
1st Marine Division

17. Marine Infantry Unload at Wonson

Marine Infantry disembark from nets of the Marines Phoenix into the LCVPs (Landing Craft, Vehicle and Personnel) on 26 October. The first of 39 scheduled waves shortly churned their way to the beach. At 0900 the 1st Marines landed on YELLOW beach and troops of the 7th Marines marched ashore on BLUE Beach. The 5th Marines began landing on both beaches. My unit the 581st Signal Radio Relay Company had landed earlier and they assigned me to unload my truck and help ferry Marine officers from the shore to the city. In the process I liberated some Marine supplies. One item I liberated was 192 one-pound cans of Danish bacon. We ate this for the next year.
