Chinese Dead Company G, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines
24. PLA 124th Inf. Div. Consists of
the 370th, 371st, and 372nd Regiments

The 124 CCF Division in North Korea The 124th engaged in action against 7th Marine Regiment south of Sudong 2-3 November. They were badly cut up in attacks of 3 to 6 November. General Lin Biao commanded this Division and later becomes a Chinese Marshal in 1955. This was his only defeat in his military career.

Major Maurice Roach's 3rd Battalion fanned out in a horseshoe formation: H Company was in the hills on the left; I Company was on the hills on the right; and back a short distance was G Company astride on the road. When the Chinese discovered the marines on the road north, the 124th was quickly shifted to the hills around Sudong to confront them.
