Who can forget that first meal at Lewis? All you could eat of anything you wanted. I don't know what my main course was but I can guarantee that I had at least one milk shake and probably a steak to go with it. I left there for Camp Kilmer, New Jersey. I was given a thirty day leave and went home to Philadelphia. While on leave I was sent orders to report to Camp Gordon, Georgia when my leave was finished. The new assignment was the same unit and location that I left from in nineteen fifty. Just before I was about to be discharged the C.O. called me in for a re-up pep talk. When it was over I noticed he had written on the form not suitable for regimentation. I cherish that opinion as a badge of honor.
