12. Chinese Soldier in Cold Weather Wielding a Russian Burp gun this Chinese soldier stands guard. With weather temperatures approaching minus 30-40 degrees F, both UN and Chinese soldiers suffered greatly form frostbite and cold related problems. Weapons often failed to fire, grenades often failed to explode, eating, and drinking became difficult. Many soldiers on both sides suffered terribly from the cold. The Chinese soldier often did not have adequate protection from the cold. To a certain extent the cold helped the Marine Division because the Chinese suffered much more from the cold than the Marines who were better equipped to handle the cold.
