Killdeer Charadrius vociferus - Very common in fields and pastures, often far from water. Adult Killdeer has two neck bands, juvenile only one. The tail is longer than other plovers. Note the orange on the upper tail and lower back. Seldom occurs in large flocks. Feigns injury near its nest to distract intruders, Repeats its name as a call. |
