Purple Martin Progne subis - Locally common where proper multi-celled nesting boxes or gourds are provided. No other Northern American swallow is dark all over. Females, young, and first-year males are light bellied and could be confused with smaller swallows. Watch for purple iridescence on head and top of wings.
