Barred Owl

Strix varia -- Less common in northern woods. Has dark eyes; the only other Owl with dark eyes is the unstreaked heart-faced Barn Owl. In flight the Barred Owl resembles the Great Horned Owl. Usually nests in cavities. Typically hoots 8 times; 4-7 series/minute.
