Common Snipe Gallinago gallinago - Common in marshes and bogs and along riverbanks. The size and shape of dowitchers, it is told by the browner, more streaked head and back, and in flight by the brown rump and orange tail. Flies in a rapid zigzag. Generally stays close to cover, while dowitchers prefer to feed in the open. Flight call, a low, rasping kzrrt. |
