Black-necked Stilt Himantopus mexicanus - Common, breeding in both fresh- and salt-water habitats. Note the long thin legs and neck, and the thin straight bill. The plumage is black above, white below. In flight the wings are an unrelieved black; the red legs trail far behind the white tail. Call is a monotonous series of loud piping notes. |
