Trumpeter Swan Cygnus cygnus - Increasingly common in Yellowstone Park, Wyoming, in Red Rocks Lake, Montana, and in parts of the Canadian Rockies. Rare outside of its breeding range, but found along the West Coast in winter. Best told by voice or by flat head and bill profile and large size. Immatures have black base and tip of their pink bill. Call is loud, low-pitched trumpeting: a low note followed by about 3 on a higher pitch. |
