Birds Observed at Our Pleasant Hill, Oregon Home
Location in Oregon
Wild Turkey Meleagris gallopavo - Gone from most of its original range, it has been widely reintroduced and now is fairly common locally in open woodland or forest clearing. Similar to the barnyard turkey, but slimmer and with rusty, not white, tip to the tail. Turkeys roost in trees at night. They fly strongly for short distances, but prefer to avoid danger by running. Their food is acorns, fruit, and seeds. Two females showed up this year near my shop. Rather unafraid, they shamefully seek handouts. Look at Next BirdReturn to Likely Bird List - Page 10 |
