Recognized by large white patch on the forewing, most distinct in male. Except in the breeding season, wigeons congregate in large flocks. Unlike most ducks they fly in tight flocks and not in long open V's. The male also shows a white crown and flanks and dark tail coverts. Call is of 2 or 3 short whistles, the last one lower pitched. |
