Location in Oregon
American Avocet Recurvirostra americana - Rather common, breeding on the shores of marshes and lakes. Legs and neck are long and thin; the needle-like bill curves upward, strongly so on the female. In flight the black bar on the white inner wing is an excellent field mark. The legs are blue-gray. Call, a loud wheet. |
