Larus argentatus - Abundant along the coasts, particularly in harbors and garbage dumps, common on lakes and rivers. Eyelids are yellow in summer. Primarily a scavenger, the Herring also breaks mollusks by dropping them. Commonly seen high overhead, soaring like hawks. Call, loud, clear, and bugle-like.
