Red-tailed Hawk Buteo jamaicensis. A well known and common buteo; nests in woodlands, feeds in open country. Often perches on poles or treetops, rarely hovers. Red-Tailed Hawks prey on rabbits and rodents. Call is a high scream, often imitated by Jays. I saw this fellow flying off with a snake in his beak from our pasture.
