Slate-colored Junco Junco hyemalis - The typical Slate-colored bird is abundant in brushy clearings and borders of coniferous forests in summer, and weedy fields, brush, and wood margins in winter. Head, back, and breast are uniformly slate-gray. Immatures, especially in or from far Northwest, have varying amounts of pink on the sides and may be confused with the Oregon races. |
