Pygmy Nuthatch Sitta pygmaea - Western counterpart of Brown-headed Nuthatch, which it resembles in plumage and habits. Pygmy's cap is grayer. Partial to pines, especially Yellow Pines, at 3,500 to 10,000 feet; leaves high elevations in winter. Calls are soft and twittering.
