Spotted Sandpiper Actitis macularia - Common breeder along fresh water, winters along southern coasts. Body is typically tilted forward, head held low. It bobs tail up and down almost continuously. In flight the wings are held stiffly downward with shallow rapid beats. No breast spots in winter or young. Usually seen singly. Call is a shrill 2- or 3-note piping. |
