Sphyrapppicus ruber - Rare to fairly common year-round resident. Found in moist rainforests, interior conifers and broken, mixed woodlands. Voice is loud, hoarse, descending queeoh. Drills and strips bark to produce perennial sap wells; also eats insects, especially ants, and fruit, occasionally flycatches for insects.
