American Tree Sparrow Spizella arborea - Common in willow thickets, weedy fields, and hedgerows. This brightest and largest of the rusty-capped sparrows is seen in large flocks in winter. It is the only one with a large central breast spot. Note its two-tone bill and dark legs. Immature is like adult. A musical 2-note twitter is diagnostic in winter. |
