Sage Sparrow Amphispiza belli - Fairly common in sagebrush and chaparral. This large dark-headed sparrow is recognized by its single breast spot and its habit of flicking its dark tail. Look for the dark spot below the ear. The narrow white margin on the outer tail feather may be lacking. Song of 4-7 high thin notes, third note highest. |
