Hairy Woodpecker Picoides villosus - Fairly common, especially in mature deciduous or mixed woods. Recognized by its medium size, the vertical white stripe on its back, and its long bill. Sexes are similar, but the female does not have a red patch on the back of its head. Call is a loud peek, also a loud kingfisher-like rattle.
