Roosting boxes should contain perches. The overall size is not important, the bigger the box, the more birds it can contain. The entrance hole should be located near the floor. If it is higher, rising heat would escape. The boxes should have no ventilation or drainage holes, and should be a airtight as possible. Clean boxes thoroughly each season and close them for the summer so they do not fill up with sparrows or mice.
