Upland Sandpiper Habitat If you see a long-legged bird perched atop a fence post in the middle of a Kansas prairie, you can be fairly certain it is an Upland Sandpiper. If you see a group of white birds walking beside cows in an Alabama pasture, they are most likely Cattle Egrets. Other birds have long legs and others are white, but they do not perch on fence posts or walk beside cows.
