Here Bernice quarters and cuts out the core of the apple using a short thin bladed knife. As she completes cutting out the core she dips them into a bowl of cold water to wash off any residue of apple blossoms that may still be on the apple. She then places them into large pot with a small amount of salt in it. This will prevent the apples from turning brown.
