Home canned products should be stored in a cool dark location. They will keep longer in this type of environment. They will keep for 4-5 years although we try to can for a period of about 2 years. If you don't have a dark location you can store them in boxes. Our storage area lies in a part of the house on the bottom floor where the wall is underground at that end.
