Canning Applesauce -- 22 Steps Step 20, Process Applesauce Process pints and quarts in a water bath or steam canner for 20 minutes. We use a steamer canner but a water bath also will do the job. For a steamer the timing begins when a steady stream of steam emits from the vents on the lower part of the lid. For the water bath the timing starts after a full boil. The water should cover the jars by at least an inch.
