Step 12, Heat the Jars

We used pints. For 30 cucumbers we need about 20 jars. We put 12 in our pan opening down with about an inch of water and applied heat to boil the water. You want hot jars so when you add the hot pickles and liquid the jars won't break. Test the jars to see they are hot and then turn the heat down. Check from time to time to make sure the water has not been sucked up into the jars and left the pan dry to burn. Before using the jars check to see there are no nicks on the rim. The cucumbers sit by the side heating up.
