Tools We Use to Can Pears

The left tool Paul uses to peel the pears. Start with the slender end and then turn over to do the fat end. Bernice then uses the knife on the right to cut them in half. Bernice uses the center tool to remove the core. The wider end takes out the center of the core and the narrow end of the tool takes out the slender ends of the pear core. Bernice got hers when she worked in a cannery back in 1947. The tool is actually a "clay sculpting tool" but does the job on pears. The canning sites seemingly don't know about this tool.
