13 Steps to Canning Relish Step 1, Check Jars Check the jars to make sure that none have nicks on the rims, cracks or sharp edges. We have used mayonnaise jars but they have had too many failures. They have thinner rims and are not as strong to handle the heat. The failure rate did not warrant using them. Often you can buy Ball, Mason, or Kerr canning jars at Goodwill or from ads in the newspaper at good prices. For relish we use narrow mouth pint jars. My son gets some sauce he likes in 24 Oz jars (3/4 Quart). They are standard Mason jars and we use them for our canning. Both Ball and Kerr have sold their home canning divisions to Allrista that sells under license to Kerr and Ball. ⇦ Back to Step 13 On to Step 2 ⇨Return to Canning Relish Page 1 |
