Measure out the Brown Sugar Now Bernice measures out the brown sugar. We are using dark brown sugar. You can also use the light brown sugar if you wish. We were a little short of the dark brown sugar and added about a quarter cup of light brown. Next she does two things. First she breaks up the major lumps with a tablespoon.
