8. Measure Shortening

We fill a 2 cup measuring cup with 1 cup of cold water. We begin to add spoonfuls of soft shortening to measuring cup with the water to bring the water up the 1 1/2 cup level. That will give us a 1/2 cup of soft shortening. My mother taught that to me when I was 7.
