Bernice Chase Noll Growing Up

3. Bernice Noll in 1937.

Bernice is in the second grade at the Brattain School in Springfield, Oregon. She rides to school on her bike from their farm. She was happy when the floods came because her Dad, Chester (Chet) Chase would put her bike in the pickup and drive her to school. Polio was a real danger in those days and one boy in her school died from polio. That affected all the kids. Bernice was both sad and scared.
