Ava Pace Crawford was the daughter of the late Julius Pace, a younger son of the large pioneer family of William A. Pace of Selado, Texas and Mary Sue Boyle Pace, daughter of the large family of James Boyle of Mississippi, and whose grandfather came over to America from the Emerald Isle. George Rankin Pace was Ava's brother.
