Paul Noll Growing Up
119. I Buy my First House I had just gotten out of the Army in 1952 and had taken a few courses at Pasadena City college to brush up on math and studying habits. In 1953, I bought this house in Berkeley, California on McGee Avenue. I had passes the entrance examination to the University of California at Berkeley, College of Engineering and began classes there. I bought this house for $6,000. Payments were $60 a month and taxes were $60 dollars a year. The government gave me $140 a month under the GI Bill to go to school. I rented two rooms out to students for $60 each to pay for my education. I worked in the school library for 20 hours a week and took 18 units. Bernice and I were married while I was living here. ⇦ Back to Page 118 On to Page 120 ⇨Hi-Res Pic (109K) Return to Paul Growing Up - Page 16 |
