There are 10 storks on a roof. A hunter shoots one.

  1. Zero - Dead stork fell off roof when shot, the rest flew away when they heard the shot.
  2. 1 - A dead stork on roof, the rest flew away when they heard the shot.
  3. 2 - Three storks are left of chimney. Hunter shot one left of Chimney.
  4. 3 - Three storks are left of chimney. Hunter shot one right of Chimney.
  5. 5 - Seven storks face left on the roof. But hunter shot one facing left leaving 5 facing left.
  6. 6 - Seven storks face left on the roof. The one shot one that faced right.
  7. 7 - Seven storks are left of TV antenna. Hunter shot one right of antenna.
  8. 9 - Dead stork doesn't count or fell off roof, others didn't hear shot.

It's obvious that students interpret question differently. Or envision subsequent actions are subject to different opinions. Other answers were also given with various reasons offered. None of above answers are wrong. Question really asked viewers opinions without setting parameters. For example, do dead storks count, etc. The word left has several meanings. How loud was the shot? How far away was hunter? Was the shot by a rifle or bow and arrow.
