He began a career in Hollywood in the early 1930s, and became known for his light-hearted approach to acting and sense of comic timing. He became an American citizen in 1942. The model name Century came about when Buick was designing its first production automobile capable of reaching a speed of 100 mph. The division needed to come up with a name.
