Cuban Land Snail (Polymita picta) Polymita picta, common name the "Cuban land snail" or the "painted snail", is a species of large, air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Helminthoglyptidae. The shell of this species is large, shiny and brightly colored. The species has numerous color varieties. These shells are sought after by poachers and used to make jewelry and trinkets. As a result, the species has become endangered. This snail is endemic to Cuba. |
